About Me

My name is Thomas McOuat, and I am the Culinary Arts / Food Studies Teacher at École St. Patrick High School. I was born and raised in Yellowknife, and graduated from St. Pat’s in 2005.

I instruct Career and Technology Studies (CTS) modules within the following list of subjects:

  • Foods 10 - 3 CTS Modules
  • Foods 20 - 5 CTS Modules
  • Foods 30 - 5 CTS Modules
  • Commercial Food Prep (CFP) - 5 CTS Modules

As a part of the CFP class we produce the lunch that is served daily to the student population through the Rock Café. We provide between 7-14 options each day, ensuring a wide variety of healthy selections.

I also run the schools cooking club. We meet once a week to develop our skills, try out new recipes, and have friendly cooking competitions. In January, the club shifts its attention to training for the Territorial Skills Competition (TSC) for those who are interested in competing.

I am the Technical Chair for the Skills Canada NWT Cooking Competition that takes place every year. I am a former competitor in both the secondary and post-secondary levels at the Territorial and National competitions. In the past few years I have coached competitors from the Northwest Territories, at National competitions. I am also a board member for Skills Canada NWT.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding the Foods program, Rock Café, or about your students progress.
